Transfer of training: An attempt to interpret subjectively perceived usability

The training of end-users has become one of the most wide spread methods for companies to support the use of software in an effective and efficient manner. Learning is dependent among other aspects, motivational aspects [1]. Within HCI motivational aspects has been largely ignored, although learning is presupposed. In this study subjectively perceived usability is used as an evaluator of training. A model of transfer of training is used as an analytic framework to provide new views on the material. The users’ selfconception and conjecture of a system is found to be of importance to the understanding of subjectively perceived usability. It is also proposed that subjectively perceived usability may be a way of evaluating transfer of training. Although not shown equivalent to transfer of training, there are indications that subjectively perceived usability may be used as one method of evaluating the transfer of knowledge acquired in training to a work-situation.
